2.1 Health Effects - Acute

Swallowed

Repeated ingestion may cause allergic reaction in susceptible individuals.

Eye

May cause mild eye irritation.

Skin

Repeated or prolonged skin contact may cause allergic dermatitis in susceptible individuals.

Inhaled

Inhaltion of dust may cause respiratory tract irritation.

2.2 Health Effects - Chronic

No information available.

2.3 First Aid

Swallowed

If conscious, drink large quantities of water. Do not induce vomiting. Get medical attention if symptoms persist. NEVER give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Eye

Remove contact lenses. Hold eyelids apart. Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists.

Skin

Wash with sopa and water. Get medical attention if irritation develops.

Inhaled

Remove to frsh air. Get medical attention if cough or other symptoms develop.

First Aid Facilities

Ensure an eye bath and safety shower are available and ready for use.

2.5 Advice to Doctor

Treat symptomatically based on judgement of doctor and individual reactions of patient.

2.6 Toxicity Data

Not listed as a carcinogen by NTP and OSHA. A single case of allergic dermatitis has been reported after repeated skin contact. A single case of anaphylaxis was reported after ingestion. Reported to cause rabbit eye irritation after exposure to dust. Low order of acute oral toxicity based on acute and chronic stidues in several species. Not mutagenic in Ames assay or chromosone aberration test.

3. PRECAUTIONS FOR USE

3.1 Exposure Standards

Occupational exposure standard : 5 mg/m3 - measurements of environmental dust have shown a significant respirable content, although due to the nature of the material, this is unlikely to present a serious problem.

3.2 Engineering Controls

Ensure adequate ventilation to maintain exposure levels below standards.

3.3 Personal Protection

Respiratory - respirator and/or dust masks are recommended when manually opening and emptying bags and sacks. Eyes - safety spectacles are recommended as minimum eye protection. Skin - protection is not normally required for skin contact. Wash hands and face thoroughly after handling and before work breaks, eating, drinking, smoking and using toilet facilities.

3.4 Flammability

Burns if heated, similar to wood. Chars readily on heating above 300 deg C. May form flammable dust air mixtures.

SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION

4.1 Storage / Transport

Ground all equipment. Blanket vessel with inert gas when emptying bags where flammable vapours may be present. Ground operator and pour material slowly into conductive, grounded chute. For large bags, a ground cable must be attached to the bag ground connection. Store in a cool, dry, well ventilated place. Keep container closed when not in use. Keep away from heat, flame, sparks and other ignition sources. Do not store in direct sunlight or expose to UV radiation.

4.3 Spills and Disposal

Spills

Clean up personnel should wear suitable protective clothing including respiratory protection if risk of inhalation of dusts. Avoid wetting spills, as surfaces can become very slippery.

Vacuum or sweep up material for use or disposal. Apply absorbent to wet spills and sweep up for disposal. After removal, flush contaminated area thoroughly with water.

Disposal

Incineration in accordance with applicable regulations is the recommended disposal method. Landfilling in a permitted solid or hazardous waste facility, meeting technical regulatory requirements is a suitablr alternative. Wastewater containing this product can be considered for treatment in an acclimated biological treatment system.

4.4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD

Fire / Explosion

Avoid conditions that generate dust. This product may form flammable dust-air mixtures. Avoid emptying package in or near flammable vapours. Static charge may cause flash fire. If heated to decomposition, the following substabces may be formed: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and smoke.

Extinguishing Media

Firefighters should wear full portective clothing including self contained breathing apparatus. Use water spray, dry chemical, foam, carbon dioxide or halon as extinguishing media.
